Here in Yorkshire, we’re graced with some of the most breath-taking scenery in the country, and within the landscape are some fantastic, quirky, and soulful businesses – which we love!
So, we decided to dedicate a blog series to the companies that are at the heart and soul of the area, so you can find out a little more about them.
Next, we met up with Kerry, the owner of Seams Sew Easy Boutique, and her team to learn more about their brand and visions. Easily accessible despite being hidden in Victoria Yard (behind the famous 'Pattern Principle'), this newly refurbished, family store now offers a range of ladies clothing as well as clothes alterations and repairs.
Tell us more about what you do and the services you offer:
After a full makeover we now have a lovely retail and display area for luxury, seasonal clothing as well as a separate room to continue our thriving alterations business. Our clothing brands are ethical and sustainably sourced as we really believe it is something we all need to consider. We hope to provide 'long fashion' as opposed to 'fast fashion'. We also offer a range of accessories and showcase jewellery that has been created locally.
How long have you been at your new premises?
We’ve been in our Victoria Yard store since February 2023 but in Holmfirth for several years and have a really dedicated client base.
How long have you been doing what you are doing?
I qualified as a seamstress 27 years ago but didn’t set up the alterations business until 2014. Since then it has grown requiring bigger premises and more staff, hence Molly and Ellie joining me.
Why did you choose premises in Holmfirth?
We chose Holmfirth as I grew up here and live in the neighbouring village of Hepworth. Holmfirth is a lovely little town and felt it had a lot to offer and wanted to be part of the local community.
What's your favourite spot for lunch in Holmfirth?
Gosh, there are so many lovely eateries in Holmfirth, that’s a tough one. We don’t often dine out as such, but often grab lunch from Bluebird Bakery (delicious pastries and breads), Ashten & Mason Breadquarters (lovely salads and treats) or The Old Bridge Bakery (super sandwiches and hot plate).
Where would you grab a drink after work?
We all have responsibilities to get home for after work so don’t go for drinks as often as we would like. If we found the time, being spoilt in this lovely area I’d probably choose from Y's Bar & Snap (riverside and lovely outside seating), Holmfirth Taproom (famous for local ales and cocktail lounge) or Holmfirth Tavern (great music and cosy vibe).
