Sum up your business in 100 words
Imagine is true Aladdin’s cave of toys, jokes, jigsaws, brain boosting games and unusual things! We were established over 20 years ago and offer great number of beautiful toys which every child, big and small could wish for! We often see adults treating themselves to a retro toy or a joke too. You can find us just behind the Old Bridge Inn in the centre of Holmfirth.
Tell us about you and your team
I’m the store’s owner, Maggie. Running an independent shop is the best yet most challenging job I’ve done. I have the best helpers, three students who run the shop in my absence. I’m the craziest one, Victoria is the most responsible, Laura is the most laid back and Caitlin is the chattiest one. A perfect combination! Amazingly, we all adore animals too and have many between us.
What makes you and your business unique? What are your specialties?
We don’t sell many licensed toys as those are too common and available everywhere else. We focus on unique and interesting toys that last longer and don’t fall with changing trends. Same with games, we mostly sell unique games you don’t see everywhere. Our most popular products are Pokémon Boosters, Tonies, TY Beanies and jokes.
What is your biggest business achievement to date?
After taking over the run down shop from the previous owner, we’ve worked super hard to have it grow as it should and we achieved this in just 3 years. We established social media and connected with our customers, we joined large number of fairs, markets and shows to grow our presence.
We now obviously compete with online stores and are keen to re-affirm the ‘Buy Local or Bye Bye Local’ campaign that so many of the local businesses are trying to promote in Holmfirth.
How long has your business been trading?
Over twenty years in total, we have had it three ourselves.
What is your favourite thing about living in Yorkshire?
Yorkshire countryside and the coast as I’m a big nature lover. Holmfirth is my favourite town as there’s a great toy shop! Haha.
When you are not at work where is the one place you love to visit?
When I’m not at work you’ll most probably find me in Beatties cafe in Holmfirth, spending my last pound in Holmfirth Vintage or walking on Wentworth grounds.
Imagine Toy Shop offer free local delivery, often on the same day! They have a loyalty stamp card which allows customers to get 20% off their 6th purchase. They are open 363 days a year (only closed for a short Christmas break)!
