The spooky season is finally upon us!
And if you’re anything like our Holmfirth estate agent team, you’ll be keen to keep the celebrations going well beyond the traditional ‘trick or treat’.
From pumpkin patches and Halloween paint-a-pot sessions to themed train rides for all, there are plenty of seasonal to-dos on our doorstep.
Here are some we think you might enjoy…
Haunted trail
Taking place from 22nd-31st October, Holmfirth Events’ town centre trail is a great place to practice your detective skills – no matter how young or old.
Grab your trail sheet and token Halloween gift from one of five locations – Imagine Toys, Occasions, The Civic, The Chocolate Box, or Holmfirth Library – then hunt down the clues to help spell the winning word.
With naughty monsters also hiding along the way, detectives need to be careful not to get distracted and thrown off scent.
All money donated in return for a trail sheet will go towards Holme Valley Foodbank Volunteers, and The Full Life Church Foodbank. All for a great cause!
Halloween paint-a-pot
Priced at £5 per crafter, The Civic is hosting a creative paint-a-pot extravaganza for local residents – with the ability to choose and decorate a ceramic Halloween masterpiece.
Whether you want to craft a new tabletop centrepiece for the spooky season, or work on something for the year round, it’s an incredibly fun event for all.
But be quick! With just one session taking place on 25th October, between 11am and 1:30pm, places are filling up fast – so booking is an essential for anyone wanting to participate.
The Wizard Express
Organised by Fun Cast Character Company, there’s a chance to join the masters and mistresses of wizard if mayhem on The Wizard Express.
Departing from the neighbouring village of Clayton West, at Whistlestop Valley, the event runs from 24th-28th October – perfect timing for the Halloween half-term.
As well as a return steam train ride, here’s what’s included in your ticket price:
At Clayton West station:
- Spellbinding Wizard School drop-ins
- All-day outdoor playground access
- Unlimited jumps on the giant pillow
- Rides on The Clayton Flyer miniature railway
- Fairground rides (for a small additional fee)
At Shelley Station:
- Tram platform rides
- All-day outdoor playground access
- Endless craft activities
- Mini treasure hunt
- Mythical creature meet and greets
Ghost train tide
Another excellent event on the Halloween calendar, departing at Whistlestop Valley, this evening ghost train service is guaranteed to send shivers down the spine of every ticket holder – so be prepared for a fright!
Departing from 6pm on 29th and 30th October only, this visit includes:
- A return steam train ride
- 45min-1hr Ghost Train experience
- Access to The Firebox Cafe
- Rides on the Clayton Flyer miniature railway
Pumpkin picking
Halloween without a pumpkin is like Christmas without a tree. And thanks to Stirley Community Farm, you can find the perfect pick yourself.
On 24th October, between 10:30am and 2:30am, visitors will be welcomed into the allotment to explore the town’s finest, ready-to-carve pumpkins, and explore mighty minibeasts along the orchard trail.
It’s a drop-in session, so no need to book – but a classic one for the whole family!
Applegate Properties’ ‘The Big Carve’
Last, but by certainly no means least, Holmfirth estate and leggings agent Applegate Properties is returning with its annual pumpkin carving competition!
With a raft of ghoulish gifts on the cards for the top entries, local residents and businesses are encouraged to submit photos of themselves alongside their artwork on social media – using the hashtag #TheBigCarve and tagging the company page in each entry.
Scary or sweet, wherever your imagination takes you, it’s time to pick up a pumpkin and get carving!
We’d love to hear which Halloween haunts in Holmfirth you’ll be getting involved in this year. Why not let our friendly Huddersfield estate agent team know what’s on the cards, over on Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter!
