Holmfirth has long drawn visitors from far and wide to its cobbled streets, in search of culture and Yorkshire charm. Not only is it home to our freshly-renovated HQ on Huddersfield Road, but it also houses a range of exciting, independent bars, restaurants, and shops — all within picturesque, countryside surroundings.
So, now that ‘dining out’ is back on the menu, we thought we’d serve up some of our favourite spots for a light bite, a delectable drink, or a full-on culinary experience within this wonderful town of ours.
1. Bloc
Standing proudly in the heart of Holmfirth, it’s hard to miss this bright building that draws cyclists and walkers alike to sample its legendary coffee and cake.
And it’s not just sweet treats on the menu, as one of our colleagues so accurately put it “you can literally get anything on toast!”
2. Mezze
Offering an array of authentic Mediterranean and Middle Eastern cuisine within a relaxed setting, this cosy spot isn’t one to miss.
Grab a couple of friends and order a feast from Mezze’s extensive tapas menu — you won’t regret it!
3. Oscars Café and Wine Bar
Enjoy a glass of hand-selected wine in this cheerful bar in the town centre which pays homage to the owners’ notorious Persian cat of the same name.
Indulge in one of their popular charcuterie boards to really make a night of it!
4. Magic Rock
This new taproom — housed within the grand Victorian building built in 1844 — serves an assortment of flavoursome IPAs, Pale Ales, and Stouts.
And for those less fond of beer, you’re well-catered for with a range of cocktails, soft drinks, wines, and spirits!
5. Lou & Joe’s Burger Co.
A relative newcomer to the Holmfirth scene, this burger joint — opened in 2019 by childhood friends Louie Cooper and Joe Wood — serves “outstanding burgers and good vibes all round”.
For good measure, make sure you add a selection of sides to your order — the Vietnamese fries are a must!
6. The Whippet & Pickle
This fine dining restaurant sitting above the cobbled lanes of Town Gate will always provide a warm welcome and delectable cuisine.
With an ever-evolving and sophisticated menu, you can rest assured you’re being served the freshest, locally sourced produce.
7. Catch Seafood
This modern-day fish and seafood restaurant offers sustainably sourced, fresh fish dishes for the whole family within a cosy setting — and is a firm favourite among the Applegate team.
