Location, location, location
Usually, the area a house is situated in is a major factor to consider. But when buying a family property, it is even more important that the neighbourhood is safe, schools are nearby and there are local parks and amenities to keep your children occupied.
Safety first
As well as trying to avoid houses that sit on busy or main roads, it is also a good idea to consider the practicality of the property’s interior – for example a narrow and winding staircase could prove to be a danger for very small children. Remember, you want your environment to be as hazard-free as possible – particularly if you have little ones!
Compromise

Condition
Some great questions to ask are ‘how old is the boiler?’ and ‘how well insulated is the property?’ Make sure you pay close attention to any damp, poor electrical work, and stains on the walls or ceiling where a leak may have occurred. Ideally, if you’re moving in with a family, you will want as little work to do on the property as possible – unless you want this challenge!
Size matters
If you already have children or are planning to in the near future, it is worth looking for a property with open areas, and a bedroom for each child. Having lots of floor space and room for play sections – inside and out – will be really beneficial for the family.

It is a good idea to plan ahead and think about the kind of house you may need in years to come. It could be that you want to expand your family in the future, so to avoid having to relocate again, consider this when choosing your home.
