Privileged to be an estate agent in Holmfirth, we’re graced with some of the most breath-taking scenery in the country. Within the landscape are some fantastic, quirky, and soulful businesses which we are desperate to support.
This month we had the pleasure of speaking with Eoin, the joint owner of the trendy and original café BLOC, found in the centre of Holmfirth. Join us as we get to know the staff and story of this wonderful Holmfirth gem!
1. Sum up your business in 100 words.
BLOC Is a fiercely independent, family ran Cafe, and more recently wine bar supplied wholly by businesses in the local area. Located in the wonderful village of Holmfirth, it has a simple, but incredibly tasty brunch & sandwich menu, coupled with a specialty coffee offering poured by its talented Baristas. On Thursdays-Saturday’s, BLOC is transformed in the evenings into a trendy, unique wine bar, serving beer & wine imported from all over the world. BLOC is famous for its large open decking area, which is a sun-trap all summer, making it one of Holmfirth’s best spots to sit outside and enjoy brunch, coffee or wine in the Sun during the summer months.
2. Tell us about you and/or your team.
BLOC is all about the team, we pride ourselves on our diverse team of passionate and talented individuals who make it a warm, welcoming environment, and ensure that our Brunch and Coffee is always of the highest quality. Our team of 15 incredible individuals are BLOC’s USP, they make it the place everyone loves to be, and we are so proud of our entire BLOC family. Particular shout out to Adele and Josh who lead the team in the cafe on a day-to-day basis.
We are a family owned and ran business, lead by newly husband and wife Eoin and Maddy. Maddy is born and raised in Holmfirth, while Eoin, originally from Manchester was late to the party but since has fallen in love with the Village. They acquired BLOC in February of this year and have since loved every second of running it.
3. What makes you and your business unique? What are your specialties
Holmfirth is blessed with so many vibrant coffee shops & bars. BLOC is unique for its outside space, providing a spacious, al fresco experience for locals and tourists alike when enjoying their Coffee, Brunch or Wines.
Recently, we have added a range of Focaccia Sandwiches to our brunch menu which have gone down a storm with our locals and are fast becoming our speciality!
4. What is your biggest business achievement to date?
When we took over BLOC we always thought it had the potential to be more than the amazing Cafe that it has always been. We are incredibly proud of the launch of BLOC Wines on Thursday-Saturday, which brings to the locals and tourists a great and unique offering of wines imported from all over the world, in the relaxing environment that BLOC provides both inside and of course on our decking area.
5. How long has your business been trading?
BLOC Has been trading for 8 years but we have been operating it for 6 months.
6. What is your favourite thing about living in Yorkshire?
It has to be the views/scenery and nice walks you have on your doorstep. That, and the community feel that you get here which I feel is unique to Yorkshire.
7. When you are not at work where is the one place you love to visit?
We have both recently developed a slightly unhealthy addiction to Padel, which is a cross between tennis and Squash. If not at BLOC we are very likely to be at Club de Padel in manchester.
We’re excited to highlight BLOC’s new bar hours! Join us at BLOC Thursday to Saturday evening to experience their unique wine bar, offering a curated selection of wines and beers from around the world.
